Hi! I’m Steve. As most of you will already know, I recently took up my role as the new Venners MD. Trevor Heyburn’s decision to retire at the end of last year meant that we had to fill the shoes of an incredibly talented and wise man. A feat not easily accomplished. I am not here to convince you of my ability to equal Trevor though, nor is it my intention in any way to walk in his shadow. My greatest goal today is to lead what is already a well-established company into achieving further future successes.
So, it’s about time I properly introduced myself, a veteran in the stocktaking world; 43 years’ worth of experience to be exact. Having started my career as a post boy in the London office when I was 17 years old, I spent several years in the office reporting on client results before training to become a stocktaker and entering the hospitality world with enthusiasm and gusto!
Following a number of years working as a stocktaker around the UK, I began to take on more managerial roles by overseeing others in my area and later throughout the entire region. It was during my time in these roles that I gained extensive understanding of business needs across all hospitality sectors, experience that was key in my appointment as Client Services Director in 2005. I really believe that this 10+ years of ‘inside knowledge’ on customer perspectives will fuel and sustain my decision making as Venners MD as we move forward.
THE FUTURE OF VENNERS
Over the years, I have found that hospitality ‘business needs’ go far beyond just stock control. Compliance, loss prevention and profit enhancement are services we have introduced and pioneered, having seen a gap in the market that absolutely needed to be filled. All these elements are vital to the health and success of any hospitality business and for this reason as a company we are particularly keen to continue developing our auditing services as holistically as possible.
SO WHAT DIRECTION ARE WE TAKING?
You might have guessed by now that I’m pretty driven in what I do. Mostly because I believe that there are always things that can be improved. And that’s exactly what has made this company unique for the last 120 years. Our services are about more than just giving you the data you need to run a tight business, they are there to help your business operate more efficiently and profitably. I am here to ensure that this is exactly what we continue to provide for our customers.
I am excited about the potential this company has to grow and truly believe it has an amazing future ahead. Our services will evolve and adapt to the times, but our delivery of quality and support will remain a constant factor in how we approach that. Most of all, I will look to ensure that our customers continue to see the value and benefits of our partnership.
